I’ve been meaning to write a blog for a while now and just never seem to get the time, but I found an hour today so this is my first blog titled ‘What a Month’!
And what a bloody month it’s been!! 😫
As you may have seen on my social media, after waiting in anticipation since July 2022 for our big move to Nottingham, it finally happened. We made the mammoth 10 hour drive from beautiful Moray, down to our new (and I must say gorgeous) home. Was it smooth sailing? Absolutely not. Was the move the worst part of the last month? Again, absolutely not.
Where to begin?? 🤔
After a morning of removals, we started the huge task of getting our house (a military quarter) 'march out' ready. When it comes to a military posting, it’s not as simple as packing up and moving on. There’s a huge list of things to be done to bring the house into ‘march in’ standard (though it’s never actually been that standard when we've moved in!🙈), all picture hooks need to be removed and filled, there’s plastering and painting to be done, every carpet needs to be cleaned and the floors and skirting boards scrubbed. The windows must be sparkling, including the inside (picture hours of scrubbing with a toothbrush and a cotton bud 😳) and we have cats so we also had to vacate the house while a flea bomb did its business. But all in all we were knackered but it was a job well done and we passed with flying colours 🥳
So where did the stress come in?
Well, the day before the ‘big’ drive down, I had phone call from my dad that no one ever wants to receive. My sister and nephew had been involved in a car accident and my sister had been whisked away to the nearest major injuries hospital. I felt sick and helpless, we were so far away and could do nothing but wait for news. Thankfully after a couple of surgeries and a few days in intensive care, she was out of hospital and on the way to recovery. It’s going to be a long process but we’re so grateful that they are both okay.
You would think that would be enough stress for a month but no……..the following day we did the ‘big’ drive down to Nottingham, whilst waiting on tenterhooks for news about my sister. We made it to our hotel, where we had to stay with our 4 cats (yes 4, it seemed like a good idea at the time 🤦♀️), so that was a sleepless night from hell, with them pouncing on us, knocking things off shelves and generally being a nuisance. We couldn’t wait to set off to our new house where we would 'march in' and meet the removals. We got to our cars and quickly realised that my husbands car had been broken into and two bags had been stolen whilst we slept……welcome to Nottingham!! So whilst the removal men unloaded our bags, my husband paced our lovely new house on the phone for hours to the police, insurance and to his work about the stolen goods. Once the removals had gone, we quickly headed to the shop to fill the fridge with lots of well needed beer 🍻
The month did then improve slightly, we got settled in, my boys have started their new school, which they love and the 3 school runs a day are keeping me fit (18,000 steps a day!!! 😴). Fast forward to today and one of my amazing lead VA’s has had a client give notice to stop their contract which in turn means she is having to reduce my hours. So this morning was spent in panic mode, arghhhh now what?! I had a little cry and now I’m putting my big girl pants on and cracking on. I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason and I’m so grateful that I will still be working with this lead VA as she is an absolute gem and although we’ve never actually met in person, a bloody good friend!
So there you have it, my first blog, not really work related but it feels good to write it all down and for you to see a bit more of the behind the scenes me 👋
Now I’m heading to the fridge, for a cold beer to start the weekend. Have a good one everyone! x
